“Two years ago PlayStation was on life support,” Stringer said during The Wall Street Journal’s D: All Things Digital Conference on Wednesday.
Lofty development costs for the console were nearly “catastrophic” for his company, he said.
But he says everything is fine and dandy now with PS3, following improved sales and a win in the HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray format war.
He said he’s “very pleased” with the console’s performance, and is optimistic that games will begin to take more advantage of the PS3’s processing power.

Street Fighter IV will be coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC whenever it gets around to shipping. Chances are, you already guessed this would be the case what with the mentions of DLC and all - but it’s nice to have official word from on high finally. Now if only Capcom would get around to announcing a release date…
Street Fighter IV, for those of you who somehow don’t know a damn thing about it, is a reimagining of the beloved fighter series with a mix of returning favorites (Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, etc.) and some new characters like Crimson Viper, Abel, El Fuerte, and Rufus. “Characters and environments are rendered in stylized 3D, while the game is played in the classic Street Fighter 2D perspective with additional 3D camera flourishes. Six-button controls for the game return, with a host of new special moves and features integrated into the input system,” says the press release.

THQ has delayed the release of Saints Row 2 by two months due to product quality and marketing considerations.
The game will now be released on October 14 instead of August 26, meaning it will miss the publisher’s fiscal second quarter.
THQ is counting on Saints Row 2 and Red Faction Guerilla to be sales drivers during the current fiscal year after failing to meet its revenue and profit targets during the financial year ended March 31, 2008.

Shaun White Snowboarding will use the Assassin’s Creed engine to create an open-world semi-sandbox snowboard game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Ubisoft has revealed. The upcoming extreme sports tie-in will merge online community aspects with single-player style gameplay in an idyllic ski resort.
Like SSX 3, SWS offers open-world mountains, though with the power of next-gen consoles this promises more freedom to turn off-piste and explore the fresh snow of back country runs. But unlike any other snowboard game, you’ll also be able to hop off your board and go hiking around to explore the environments.

Here are 23 Pure screenshots that weighed in at 231.7MB. Excessive? Yes, but the game does look bloody nice.
The environments look so good it’s the sort of game that should be seen in screens that are nine-bazillion pixels wide, but we shrunk them down to a sensible size so as not to snap the internet, and so you can actually see them today.
It’s not just a pretty face - it plays pretty well too. You can read a preview here.

The news comes straight out of the company’s latest financial report and also lists Bionic Commando and MotoGP 08 as planned releases before the end of FY 08.
It’s worth noting that the financial year ends next April. Looking back over past release dates, Resident Evil 4 came out in January in Japan and North America, so there is a chance is won’t make the shelf before Christmas.

We know the Metal Gear Solid series is famous for its long cutscenes, but this tops everything!
Metal Gear Solid 4, the latest instalment in Hideo Kojima’s seminal stealth series, has cutscenes (note the plural) that approach the 90 minutes mark.
The news comes from PSW UK magazine, who’s seen and finished MGS4, 90-minute cut-scenes and all. We were expecting long story sequences (MGS2 approached the 45 minute mark in one) but an hour and a half of cinematics was unexpected.

When you got your special edition copy of Grand Theft Auto IV, did you ever think ‘Hey, that would make an awesome case for a PC?’ No? Well, Mark Harris did.
During a quiet spot at work, Harris took a miniITX system and saw the potential in its size. “Normally I don’t see the point in buying limited / special editions of computer games,” he told us, “as they come with items that you will find yourself throwing away after a while.
“Not pre-ordering my GTA IV early enough meant I had to order the special edition. I’m glad that I did.”
