Whitebox vendors in the region may warm up to the One Laptop Per Child’s (OLPC’s) decision to open its design, according to market research analyst IDC.
Multinational PC makers, on the other hand, will continue their focus on mini-notebooks, Reuben Tan, IDC’s senior manager for personal systems research in the Asia-Pacific region, told ZDNet Asia in a phone interview.
Earlier this month, OLPC founder Nicholas Negroponte announced the organization’s intention to open source its hardware design and invite commercial PC makers to copy it. In an e-mail interview with ZDNet Asia, Negroponte said the OLPC intends to make open as many aspects of its next-generation XO laptop as possible.

Yes, after many fun-filled years of officiially bringing official PlayStation news to the UK officially, OPM is branching out. Supplementing the old wood pulp and glue approach with a shiny new digital best friend, our sister mag is very soon to join us in the sparkly futuristic world of the internet, with the first ever Official PlayStation Magazine web site.
Currently staking its claim to a place on the web with a holding page right here, the mag is busily gearing up a whole load ofgreat content for the site. Faster news, a thriving online PlayStation community, closer connections between the team and their readers… It’s all coming, and it’s going to make the site the place to be for all owners of anything PlayStation (alongside Radar’s very own PS channels, of course).

At 08:00 tomorrow, Friday 27 February, the entire seven-strong editorial team of Official PlayStation Magazine UK will begin a 24-hour gaming session on the PlayStation Network. Why? Well, it beats working. And, more importantly, with the UK release of Killzone 2 they want to celebrate howmany decent online titles PS3 now boasts. Oh, and it’s a double XP weekend on COD4. Get in.
They won’t be playing on their own, either. Throughout the day various developers will be dropping in to play their own games with the mag. EA Vancouver will be playing FIFA 09, Criterion will be playing Burnout Paradise, and Infinity Ward will be playing COD4, among others.
